Car insurance steps in Saudi Arabia


According to the instructions of the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency regarding the regulation of procedures for compulsory insurance claims with insurance companies, ensuring the protection of the insured and the beneficiaries, and facilitating the procedures for settlement of claims for vehicles, and that the beneficiaries receive compensation amounts within a short period.

Insurance companies are obligated to do the following:


  1. Settlement of insurance claims for third-party vehicles for individuals whose value does not exceed 2,000 Saudi riyals within a period not exceeding five working days from the date of receiving the claim with completed documents.
  2. Adoption of a unified form for compulsory motor insurance claims (third party) for individuals.
  3. Standardization of documents required to submit compulsory motor insurance claims.
  4. Unifying the procedures that the insurance companies abide by to settle the compulsory motor insurance claim.
  5. The company's obligation upon receiving any claim to provide the submitter with a receipt proving that the claim has been received, and to inform him of any deficiencies within seven days of receiving it.
  6. The company's commitment to inspect the vehicle within a period not exceeding three days from the date of submitting the claim
  7. Paying all compulsory motor insurance claims (third party) for individuals
  8. Recovering the remaining part of the insurance premium in the event of canceling the motor insurance policy by depositing the compensation amount into the beneficiary's bank account directly via IBAN.
  9. The company's commitment to settle the amounts of claims decided by the General Traffic Department, Najm Insurance Services Company, or the authorized entities covered under this document with integrity and fairness without any compromise within a maximum period of fifteen Hijri days from the date of receiving the claim.

What documents are required to be attached to the car insurance claim form if your responsibility is 100% for the accident?

If the damage is caused by the vehicle only

  • The original accident report and the sketch + photos of vehicle damage
  • A copy of the driving license (the form) for the third-party vehicle + a copy of the vehicle's owner ID (the third party)
  • Original three estimates of the workshops and the original estimate of spare parts / the estimate of the Sheikh of exhibitions
  • The bank account number (IBAN) of the vehicle owner


If the damages are attached to public property

  • The original accident report and the sketch
  • A copy of the traffic license (form) of the third-party vehicle
  • A copy of the identity card of the vehicle owner (the third party)
  • The bank account number (IBAN) of the vehicle owner
  • The original receipt of the recipient for damages to public property


If the damages are attached to private property

  • The original accident report and the sketch
  • A copy of the traffic license (form) of the third-party vehicle
  • A copy of the identity card of the vehicle owner (the third party)
  • The bank account number (IBAN) of the vehicle owner
  • Three assets estimates for property damage
  • Origins of the damaged goods invoices (in case the goods are damaged)


If the consequential damages represent casualties to individuals

  • The original accident report and the sketch
  • A copy of the traffic license (form) of the third-party vehicle
  • A copy of the identity card of the vehicle owner (the third party)
  • The bank account number (IBAN) of the vehicle owner
  • The original medical report issued by the hospital
  • The original judgment instrument issued by the court


If the consequential damage represents death to individuals

  • The original accident report and the sketch
  • A copy of the traffic license (form) of the third-party vehicle
  • A copy of the identity card of the vehicle owner (the third party)
  • The bank account number (IBAN) of the vehicle owner
  • A copy of the traffic license (form) of the third-party vehicle
  • A copy of the identity card of the vehicle owner (the third party)
  • The original death certificate
  • The original judgment deed + the original deed of determination of heirs issued by the court


What are the supporting documents for a vehicle insurance claim?

These documents include the validity of the insurance coverage and the circumstances of the accident arising from that claim, as well as other documents such as the accident report from the Traffic Department and any other original documents that the company may require, including the following:

  • Traffic license
  • Vehicle ownership document
  • Insurance document
