UAE launches ‘Post Office’ initiative to improve health insurance claims process

The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) launched the "Post Office" initiative as part of the "Riayati" unified national medical records, which is a linking system of hospitals, clinics and healthcare providers.


From improving treatment services and reducing health care costs in the UAE, to achieving a smart and integrated health system that serves the beneficiaries of health services and strengthening control over the insurance system to reduce the misuse of financial resources, the new service helps provide better centralized management of information related to electronic insurance claims. The post office service covers the workflow of all claims between healthcare facilities and insurance companies, such as eligibility verification, insurance coverage, and electronic payments, including claim submission and follow-up of rejections.


All of the aforementioned services are available for use by authorized users in healthcare facilities without having to rely on insurance companies.


Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai, Ruler of Dubai, launched the 2018 Arab Health Expo, which seeks to bring the best levels of healthcare to the UAE community.

Al Ketbi emphasized that the recently launched service will help patients obtain health care services through balanced insurance financial resources.


Digital transformation initiatives

Mubaraka Ibrahim, Director of Information Technology at the Ministry of Health and Population, explained that the post initiative is one of the digital transformation initiatives in the health sector in cooperation with Pure CS, adding that the service will help improve patient experience in avoiding delays due to incorrect insurance claims and through improving efficiency in claims management


He said: "Unlike the previous system in which the patient had to wait longer periods to obtain insurance, the new system will quickly verify eligibility and insurance coverage electronically through secure networks. Meanwhile, hospitals and clinics will have the opportunity to save additional costs by developing mechanisms to obtain prior authorization and electronic claims submission.


"The eClaims engine will collect financial and medical information from all healthcare providers in the Northern Emirates in accordance with international standards," said Rajesh Dujar, RIATI Project Manager, Pure CS. After that, you will act as a third party between the service providers (Hospital, Clinic, Dentist) and insurance companies. All transactions will be electronically verified to avoid errors and ensure that the claim is correctly submitted to the insurance company.
