Once on the blue moon, people find certain things in their homes that seem really strange and mysterious. There is even a case of someone who had something in their house and investigated it for 20 years to try to discover its purpose, with no luck. That is, until they relented and asked the advice of a popular subreddit. Here, with the help of some experts, they found the purpose of the article in less than 14 minutes; now that should be some kind of record.
Coninsure has put together some really weird things people wanted to find out and we invite you to take a look; You can even guess a few before seeing the answers!
1. “A friend found this at Goodwill. Toolbelt of some kind.”
Answer: It is a fishing rod holder. Here is a similar one
2. “What are these wooden kitchen implements I was given as a gift?”
3. “What are these strands/threads coming out of my crackers?”
Answer: I work in the food industry. These are the 100% frayed edges of the conveyors that carry the cookies through the packaging process before they are transferred to the oven bar. Contact the manufacturer with the codes and date on the box. This will help them achieve them and you will most likely get some free stuff.
4. “Found in our new house on the top landing banister rail. Seems like it’s meant to hold something, but not sure what it is?”
Answer: It appears to be a hair dryer holder.
5. “Real-life-looking eyeball, maybe glass? With 3 holes on the metal piece. Found at a flea market.”
Answer: I have one of those! It is a promotional keychain for a company that makes taxidermy glass eyes.
6. “2 flat metal round disks with long stems attached by hinges. No markings. Found in a new kitchen.”
Answer: It is a flame inhaler used to extinguish a can of gel fuel on a tabletop stove.
7. “A smooth, 500-gram, oval-shaped, chrome-plated weight?”
Answer: It is a manual scale calibration called a calibration weight. It is until you know the exact weight of an object when you compare it to another, or if you want to generate the scale, etc.
8. “What are these things behind my curtains?”
Answer: Mud dopper nests, those black things that look like wasps. They build them and lay their eggs in them. These have grooves so they are old. If they don't have holes, then the larva is there with about 20 spiders that the larva's mother has left to eat before leaving the nest.
9. “Banana sized and shaped old tool(?) found in an old barn in Sweden. Wooden handle with rusty metal tip.”
Answer: an atom for a seed. It makes a hole in the ground to plant a seed.
10. "Found inside a musical instrument, it is about the size of a large grape, but it doesn't have holes big enough for it to fall into."
Answer: It is a ball of dust, a common accumulation of dust on violins. Sometimes known as a mouse.
11. "I stepped on this today while cleaning a room. A huge deer-shaped weight with two serrated grooves in the middle."
Answer: kinetic sculpture. It should sit on a post in the middle of the spike so that it can rock back and forth.
